Better
Chinatown
Society (Event Organizer)
Founded
in 2001, Better Chinatown Society is a volunteer-based organization dedicated
to the improvement of
New York’s
Chinatown. The society seeks to build community
solidarity and generate greater awareness of Chinatown, the Asian-Chinese American
culture by organizing special activities and events that bring the people of
Chinatown and Asian Americans together while also attracting tourists and main
stream visitors. In addition to the annual Lunar New Year Parade &
Firecracker Ceremony, the Better Chinatown Society also organizes the annual
Autumn Moon Festival & Children Lantern Parade, the Chinatown Independence
Day Parade & Festival and X Mas gift for children and senior’s Festival and
numerous sports tournaments, and many special community social events.
This
year we also organized 2 major events: the Atlantic City Boardwalk Lunar New Year Parade in February 2011 and
the 1st China Day in New York Cultural Festival in September 2011 in
Soho/Noho NY.
The
Better Chinatown Society has also created a Lunar New Year Celebration
Committee which includes numerous community organizations and leaders who serve
as leaders and volunteers. Their combined efforts have made this event the most
successful and popular winter attraction in Chinatown, as well as
New York.
